Painted in oils
I painted this still life in my oil paintings class. I went through a phase where I used a bluish grey background in many of my paintings, and this piece is no exception. It's a color that speaks to me and provides a perfect contrast to the brighter colors in the foreground.
If I had to estimate how much time I spent on this painting, I'd guess 5 - 10 hrs. I worked off an image in this case and didn't use a grid. Things I focused on in this painting:
Getting crisp and diffuse edges on the persimmons where appropriate.
Shadows. Both on the persimmons and on the surface that they are on.
Colors. Getting all of the variations of colors on the persimmons.
Though some of my persimmons look like orange tomatoes, I love this painting.
