Painted in Acrylic
I wanted to capture my husband's new sombrero that he loved, so I painted a portrait of him. To pay tribute to the hat, I chose a dramatic desert cowboy theme for the background. This painting was a first for me - my first large painting (3 ft by 3 ft) and first painted portrait. I thought this scale would provide an additional challenge, but thing it made things easier; limiting the need to make precise movements
I created this painting before I bought my easel. I leaned the canvas against a wall and completed the entire piece in just one sitting, taking about 6-10 hours (a sleepless night). The quickness of it was freeing, and I referenced a photo of my husband's face to ensure I captured him perfectly, but didn't use a grid. This painting is a true representation of my love for my husband and his beloved sombrero. It currently hangs prominently in our living room
